Inside: When you want to treat yourself, how can you do it without busting your budget? Here you will find a list of ways you can indulge yourself for free.
It is so nice to treat yourself for a job well done or as a getaway from the stressors of life. Maybe a day at the spa? What about a nice dinner at that trendy new restaurant? Ooh, and that nice thingamabob you have had on your wishlist for a year now – surely you deserve to buy it.
Do some of those sound familiar? It is easy to spend a good chunk of cash treating yourself. But if you want to save money, does that mean you need to suffer in silence? Do you not get to have a bit of fun?
Well, that isn’t true. You can save your pennies (and $20s) by finding ways to treat yourself frugally and often even for free if you already have items on hand.
1. Soak in the tub
I’m not sure what it is about water, but it is relaxing. Set up some music in the bathroom, turn down the lights and even light a few scented candles. Then, sit back and relax in a nice bath. Bubbles, salts, oils, or bath bombs are optional.
2. Relax at the park
If it is a nice day, then get out of the house or office. Go to the park for a nice stroll as a stress reliever and even bring a book to read as you lay under a tree.
3. Read a book
If your guilty pleasure is a good book, then indulge! Grab a book from the library by your favorite author and immerse yourself in the storyline. Psst! It doesn’t have to be a serious book, either! When treating yourself, your book may be a steamy romance, the Harry Potter you sneaked out of your kids’ room, or anything else.
4. See a movie
Do you have a favorite movie at home or subscribe to Netflix? Then get out the popcorn or wine and watch a good movie. Whether it’s a newly released action film or you are watching Casablanca for the 59th time, we won’t judge.
5. Make comfort food
I don’t know what it is about food, but it can be comforting and indulgent. You could treat yourself to some great homemade mac-n-cheese. But I prefer splurging a bit on dessert. Try making some brownies, homemade ice cream, or your favorite fruit with a bit of whipped cream. If you have the ingredients on hand, it’s all good.
6. Home mani-pedi
Try freshening up by doing your own nails. Pick your favorite color from your polishes at home, make a drink, turn on some music and pamper yourself by doing your nails. If you are like me and can’t get polish to stay on your fingernails for more than a day or two, you may have better luck with the toes – which is great for summer!
7. Work on a craft
Working on a craft can focus your mind on the task at hand rather than worrying about grocery lists, projects due at work, and whether your toddler will eat or wear dinner. Perhaps you have a knitting project laying around, or you could dust off your paint set or even the table saw for a few projects.
8. Draw or color
Have you seen all the adult coloring books around? You can draw and color your own design or even search for and print off a few for free. Just Color has downloads available for free. Even sitting back and doodling can be relaxing.
9. Crank up the music
Whether you are amped up and want to turn up the volume on some dance or metal music or would rather sit back and mellow out to some classical or baroque pieces, try treating yourself to some music. Dig through your collection, or, if you are already an Amazon Prime member then you can stream music directly from them.
Sometimes with stressors all around a good workout helps, well, work out the frustrations. Or at least it seems to help quiet all the noise. Grab your shoes and go for a run or load up a YouTube video or app for at-home workout options. Need more ideas? There are other resources for getting fit frugally.
It is important to take care of yourself and even pamper yourself on occasion. Treat yourself and your wallet well by indulging frugally. You’ll feel amazing.
