Inside: Whether you are a teen or have been married for over 20 years, finding ways to have a fun, cheap date night may leave you stumped. We’ve got you covered.
We’ve all been there. You want to have some alone time with your sweetie.
The normal dinner and a movie get pricey, though. And if you are tired, coming up with fun yet cheap date ideas isn’t as easy as it sounds.
So, take a nap and get ready to go out because I’ve come up with a list of date ideas for you.
Fun, Cheap Date Ideas
1. Museum or art gallery
Did you know that many museums and art galleries have free admission once a month? It is great for families, but also great if you can go on a date. Give them a call and find out if your local establishments offer this and when.
If that fails, often local libraries have museum passes you can use for admission.
2. Watch movies in a blanket fort
Why let kids have all the fun? Camp out in the comfort of your home with a blanket fort. Pop some popcorn, break out the drinks and set up a screen for some cozy movie time.
3. Go for a stroll
When was the last time you went for a stroll with your spouse? It is a great way to quietly observe the scenery, window shop, or people watch.
4. Go skating
Do you remember how much fun it was to go roller skating or ice skating when you were younger? Take your date skating.
If either of you is a bit wobbly, you’ll likely end up holding hands for support and have a few laughs.
5. Go for a drive
If you are wanting a day out, dig out a map and check out some scenic roads. Along the way, you may find a new favorite diner for a slice of pie.
Grab a blanket and some food and head to the park or your backyard for this tried-and-true date idea.
7. Video games
If you both enjoy video games and there is more than one controller, try a night of gaming.
8. Go to the beach
The beach is a great getaway. It is perfect for that clichéd long walk on the beach. You can also get in on some sandcastle fun or fly a kite.
9. Open air concert
Many cities have free outdoor concerts in the summer. Check one out for a nice evening of music with your sweetie.
Go out on a clear night and try to pick out different constellations.
11. Movie + charcuterie board
Yep, Netflix and chill (or Netflix and chill). You can make movie night even better by putting together a charcuterie and cheese board along with some drinks.
12. Game night
Board games are popular again. Bring out a few along with snacks for a laid-back night.
Get away from the house and go camping. If you aren’t the tent type, many campgrounds offer yurts as well.
14. Go for a hike
Aching for something more than a stroll downtown? Maybe something a bit quieter and more intimate? Go for a hike on nearby trails.
15. Pedal boating or canoeing
Like the water? Rent or borrow a pedal boat or canoe for a quiet time on the lake.
16. Get dessert
You can experience some great restaurants by grabbing coffee and dessert. Best of all, it’s a splurge without all the guilt of paying for a full meal.
17. Play tennis
Borrow some rackets and play a game at community free tennis courts.
18. Take a class
Find an inexpensive one-time painting or cooking class and take it together. The results may be terrific, or at least entertaining.
19. Take photos
Go out with a camera and take turns taking pictures of things that interest either of you. Have fun and do odd perspectives.
20. Go to an arcade
If you have an arcade nearby, give it a go for some inexpensive fun. We did this as part of an anniversary evening out. It was a blast!
21. Go out for coffee or tea
Yes, it’s nice to sit in a cozy coffee shop and talk. Want something a bit different? Try a tea shop or a cafe that serves bubble tea.
Kids: What about kids? Try swapping babysitting duties with another family so you can each get time alone with your spouse.
